Elections 2006 and 2007

If we want a future for our planet please vote for the party doing the most on climate change.

Sadly no party party is perfect, with the Bracks Government extending the life of the most polluting coal power plant in the world, Hazelwood, but supporting 15% renewable energy by 2015.

The Greens has said they will oppose windfarms where ever they are opposed by local residents.

Even worse are the Liberals are continuing to oppose windfarms and meaningful action on climate change.

The Howard government's policies focus on supporting the fossil fuel industries though technologies such as geosequestration and corporate welfare while it has defunded renewable research closing the renewable CRC.

The Team is BACK!

November 8, 2006

After a two year break campaigning for other organisations the Futureenergy.org team of Matthew and Adrian is reforming to continue the campaign to save our planet.

This time round we are running under the banner of Beyond Zero Emissions and have also established a Zero Emission Network.

This website will be maintained as a solutions orientated we site and will be updated over the next two months.

Why Zero Emission?

Simply put we have already gone to far down the path of global warming and we can no longer delay taking action to reduce levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG).

The only way we can do this is to reduce our release of GHG to near zero and sequester atmospheric and ocean GHG.

Mainstream environment groups are campaigning to slow down but ultimately increase the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to levels far higher than today.

Given the effects of climate lag, global dimming, and positive feed back loops we can not risk this path if we wish to have a chance of a future worth living in for the mjority of those living on this planet.

Find out more about why we need to go to Zero Emissions and Below now.

How far have we come in two years!

August 24, 2006

After a two year break it is interesting to review the news items from below and see where we have got to.

Ice around the world is melting faster than ever, America and Australia still haven't signed the Kyoto Protocol, the Howard government is still trying to stop the bald hills wind farm and others, Bellamy has been discredited internationally because of his claims around wind power and climate change, the record 2004 hurricane season was topped by the destructive power of Katrina in 2005, and coal still doesn't stack up.

Arctic Melting Fast

November 10, 2004

New research has found the Arctic has decreased by 8% in surface area since 1970.

The research titled Impacts of a Warming Arctic: Arctic Climate Impact Assessment was commissioned by the Arctic Council and was released at a symposium being held this week in Iceland.

"The report concludes that the consequences of the fast-paced Arctic warming will be global. In particular, the accelerated melting of Greenland's two-mile-high sheets of ice will cause sea levels to rise around the world." ANDREW C. REVKIN, New York Times. October 30, 2004

Howard Government seeks to halt wind farms

October 14, 2004

One of the first acts of the Howard government is to oppose the construction of the Bald Hills wind farm.

The Federal Government intervention is part of a Liberal campaign to use wind farms to gain political points against the Bracks government by encouraging division and opposition to wind farms across Victoria.

September 29, 2004

Futureenergy.org campaigners attended a public meeting in Foster designed to promote anti wind sentiments. Bellamy was the guest speaker.

How does coal stack up?

A 1983 study showed that at a coal power station, 3,000 birds were killed in a single night during an autumn migration. This was in the northern hemisphere, which has large bird migrations. However, people who oppose wind power wind also take their wind farm casualty figures from the northern hemisphere.
